Does anyone know why this is happening -- and, more importantly, how to Make It Stop?
I have a Dell Dimension E510 with Microsoft XP. I want to save a word file on to a disk. This should be simple -- but I keep getting a message that says I don't have access to the "D" folder and I should "see my administrator for access." There is no administrator, this is my home computer.
There must be a place in the software where I click a box that says: "Idiot machine, I am the administrator and always have been!" But where is it?

Sorry, I can't help you. I am extremely computer challenged. Hope someone brainy comes to your rescue.
Not sure if my previous comment came in.
If you are putting in a diskette, save it to the a: drive. Hope this helps !!!
Wish I could help, I'm passing all the electronic devices received during Christmas in this house to my husband, hate having to think beyond the on/off switch.

Thanks, everybody. Last night, I spent about an hour on the phone with a friend who's "in computers" and we concluded that it is not a problem that can be talked through. For some reason the computer is not recognizing the drive. This means a trip to the specialists -- who, I think, may have caused this problem in the first place.
On the upside, my wonderful mother said "Can I buy you a computer for Christmas?" So I may -- finally -- succumb to a Mac. And to wireless. I'm so modern I can hardly stand myself.

I think I would like a Mac. As in: I'd like a Rolls Royce.
I'm glad you're going to get professional help. I was far from that!
today's word: dricsnas
sounds a bit like a noun: customs post in one of those obscure countries?
This happens periodically on my computer, and mkes me frantic: to fix it I go:
1. My Computer
2. Right click on D Drive
3. In window that opens click Properties
4. Click on Recording
5. Check box that says enable CD
6. Apply, OK
Should fix it. And may cause a new window to pop up when you start the computer saying Cannot access DVD drive. You say YES you are sure you want to enable CD etc etc.
