and on the second day

Errands. If the roads to lower Westchester County are passable.

Where I am in the northeast Bronx, you would never know there had a been such a fierce storm only two days ago. Or any storm, really.

I didn't lose electricity, water, the boiler, or the roof.
The trees are upright. There was a bit of leaf litter on the streets, but so little it's hardly worth mentioning.
All the regulars to my stray cat breakfast buffet are accounted for.

From the news last night I learned that the rain total (so far) for this August was a little over 19 inches. An astronomical high tide indeed.

I feel very lucky.

You are very lucky but also very prepared. A big sigh of relief that you and your household came through whole.

I'm glad you came through it safely. It is much better to be prepared than to wish you had been!

Thanks, everyone. Preparation takes you far, but only so far. I was lucky and I know it.

I'm braced for the next one. 'Tis the season.

How are the Delaware folks?
I'm glad you're prepared for anything else that might blow through. Down here, it's still early, but I'd say a good time to check the emergency kits!

Batteries, especially. If you need batteries, get them immediately.

Yes, thanks for asking, I realized I didn't update about the Delaware contingent -- who are all fine. They were without power for "a couple of hours" but no tornadoes and no other ill effects beyond epic sogginess which dissipated fairly quickly.
