cleared the bench

I had a bench-clearing day in the studio on Tuesday. There were things pending for the guild show. The red & white button sampler:

12 x 18 inches
And
My piece for the art quilters' challenge, Forms of a Dress. This challenge was my own idea and it took me way too long to come up with an idea for my own idea.

10 x 14 inches
And
A piece for the silent auction that I started -- gulp -- last year and didn't finish in time. It's been scowling at me from the workbench for about 10 months, but I knew it's time would come.

forgot to measure, maybe 15 x 18
So those are all done and out of the house.

On the weekend, I had the idea that the line work I've been doing in ink might be interesting on discharged black duck, so I had at it with the bleach. I don't do this very often and I forgot how fast liquid bleach can be, so I ended up with black stripes on orange panels, rather than t'other way around. So I added some Soft Scrub and left it overnight.
Rinsed out, this is still not even close to what I hoped for, but evocative. Of what, I don't know, but something will come of it.

Today is two-bin rubbish day...I think I'll consign a very large heap of paper, fabric, thread et cetera to the recycle bin.
I call this clearing my space!

I do a fair amount of "close your eyes and pitch it out" as well. Just not this week.

You're making good stuff. Will be interesting to see what you do with the rinse-out. Sometimes the best ideas come from that sort of unexpected result. Sometimes, I find, I can't even imagine what I want or need until I see it. No visionary, I!

Thanks, Laura.
Sometimes I can't imagine it even when I'm seeing it.
That foggy duck cloth is evoking not much of anything so far. Maybe I'll put it away so I can be surprised by it later. Sometimes surprise knocks something loose.

The dresses piece is so charming - they look as if they might be found on a character in Dick and Jane or in McCall's magazine ready for Betsy to put on. The bleached out cloth? Gorgeous.

You have been busy. I love the buttons with the stitches. The dresses are simply gorgeous. Look forward to seeing them -
Remind me to show you my t-shirts someday...hope to see you soon too.

Thanks, Barb. It's been so long since I worked with color, it took about three days to decide on the scraps for the dresses.

Denise,
I think I may bleach some more and then overdye. Or not. It's still early.

I think the discharge / bleach process created a great fabric. At first glance they look like ghost fence posts to me.
